Administrative Committee meets Parliamentary Secretary

The newly formed Administrative Committee recently held a meeting with Parliamentary Secretary Dr Chris Said.  Scope of meeting was to have a discussion on the future role of the Administrative Committee as well as brief the Parliamentary Secretary about ideas and projects which the Administrative Committee will work upon in the next months and years.

 

 

 

 
Hamlet elections underway

Elections for 7 administrative committees for hamlets are currently underway.Local Councils Coat of Arms

A total of 53 candidates have submitted their nomination for the election of 5 persons in 8 hamlets. But, no election will be held in Santa Lucija, in Gozo, after only 5 candidates have submitted their names.

Elections will be held in Kappara, Paceville, Madliena, Fleur-de-Lys, Bubaqra (Zurrieq), Marsalforn (Zebbug) and Xlendi (Munxar). Votes will be counted at the respective voting places.

There are 10 contenders for the Zebbug committee, and 6 names for posts on the Xlendi, Bubaqra, Fleur-de-Lys, and Kappara committees. Seven names are on the ballots of Paceville and Madliena.

The Nationalist Party has 36 candidates, while the Labour Party has 10 candidates. Another two independent candidates will be contesting.

Around 8,200 eligible voters had received notices informing them they will be able to vote bt using their ID cards. For the first time, vote-counting will take place in the polling stations themselves.

 
Administrative Committee Elections - No Election in Santa Lucija

The Electoral Commission announced that at the end of the closing period for submission of nominations for the administrative committees elections it has received the following 5 nominations for the Santa Lucija committee:

Bellamy Maria Carmela
Cassar Louis
Mizzi Joseph
Stellini Alfred
Stellini Maria

In view that the committee will be composed of 5 members, no elections will be held in Santa Lucija.

 
Administrative Committee

Government recently announced the establishment of Administrative Committees responsible for small villages, including Santa Lucija.

Elections will be held on Saturday, 27th March 2010.

The Electoral Commission will start receiving nominations for the election of administrative committees on February 22.

The Commission said that prospective candidates who would like to obtain information regarding the procedures that they are to follow in respect of these elections should contact the Electoral Office, Evans Building, St. Elmo Square, Valletta, during office hours.

Nominations will continue to be received until February 24. Applicants deposit €90 euros and must present their identity card.
